Born to a strong warrior of his Thri-Kreen Tribe near Urik, Ch'Tun was raised to be like his father.  To defend his Tribe against elves of the Tribe of Shadows or the Silt Stalkers. 

But one day,  while he has out with his mate, leaving his son in the car of his Tribe,  they feel prey to an horrible aberration. The monster kept them alive and fed off their nightmares and fear for several weeks. Ch'Tun eventually escaped, near death,  carrying with him the remains of his mate. 

The ordeal caused the appearance of foreign thoughts in his mind,  and it severed his link to the Kreen. Gradually,  him and his son were seen as parias, as new powers grew in Ch'Tun's mind. 

One day,  he was sent on an infiltration mission to Util, to track and kill members of the Tribe of Shadows.  It was meant as a suicide mission but it turned out to be good salvation,  for in his absence,  the Silt Stalkers eradicated his Tribe. Only Ch'Tun and his offspring remain. His son in the care of the Veiled Alliance, Ch'Tun got caught in Amanu's War against Tyr. He survived the slaughter and this met new comrades to form the band known as The Sand Spears.
